Refunds & Returns Policy

My American Goods®

We want you to love your purchase while also protecting the American makers we proudly partner with. Because our catalog includes handmade, small-batch, personal care, perishable, custom, and marketplace-fulfilled goods, our return policy is necessarily more specific in certain categories.

By placing an order on My American Goods®, you agree to the terms of this policy.


Start a Return

Most eligible returns can be started through our Returns Portal using your order number and the email address or ZIP code associated with your order.

Returns must be authorized before being sent back. Items returned without authorization may be refused or returned to the customer at their expense.

Order Changes & Cancellations

After placing an order, customers have a limited 60-minute window to make changes directly from the order confirmation page. During this time, you may be able to update your shipping address, edit items in your order, apply a discount code, or cancel your order before fulfillment begins.

After this window has passed, your order may enter fulfillment and can no longer be changed or canceled. Once an order has shipped, eligible items must be handled through our standard return process.

Thoughtful Purchasing

At My American Goods®, many of the products we offer are handmade or produced in small batches by independent American makers. Because these businesses operate at a smaller scale, we encourage customers to review product descriptions, specifications, sizing details, ingredients, dimensions, and images carefully before placing an order.

Our goal is to help customers make confident purchases while also protecting the small American businesses that produce and fulfill these goods.

1. Return Window

We have a 30-day return policy, which means eligible items may be returned within 30 calendar days from the delivery date shown on the carrier's tracking information.

Marketplace Partner Policy Exception

Because My American Goods® is a marketplace featuring products fulfilled directly by independent American makers, certain items may follow the maker's individual return policy, which can differ from our standard 30-day return window. When applicable, the maker's policy shown on the product page takes precedence.

2. General Eligibility for Returns

To be eligible for a return:

  • The item must be in the same condition that you received it.
  • Items must be unworn, unused, unwashed, and unaltered.
  • All original tags, labels, seals, accessories, inserts, and packaging must be intact.
  • Items must be returned in original packaging, including branded boxes, dust bags, sleeves, jars, tubes, bottles, wraps, or other included packaging.
  • You must provide a receipt, order confirmation, or proof of purchase.

Any item that shows signs of use, wear, washing, alteration, installation, scent use, broken seals, missing packaging components, or damage caused after delivery will be ineligible for refund and may be returned to the customer at their expense.

3. Comparison Purchases

Because many of our products are handmade or fulfilled directly by independent makers, orders placed for the purpose of comparing multiple colors, sizes, scents, styles, or variants with the intention of returning unwanted options may not be eligible for a refund.

When multiple variants are purchased for comparison, My American Goods® reserves the right to:

  • Approve store credit instead of a monetary refund
  • Limit the number of items eligible for return
  • Decline the return if it creates disproportionate cost for the maker

4. Return Shipping

Unless an item is confirmed damaged, defective, or incorrect, customers are responsible for return shipping costs.

If we provide a prepaid return label, the cost of that label may be deducted from the refund amount.

Original shipping charges are non-refundable.

Return shipping costs may vary based on the item's size, weight, destination, and carrier rates. For lower-priced items, the cost of return shipping may be close to the value of the item itself.

5. Photos & Return Review

All return requests are subject to review before approval.

For damaged, defective, incorrect, or condition-sensitive items, we may require clear photos of:

  • The item
  • Product packaging
  • Shipping packaging
  • Shipping label
  • Any visible damage, defect, or discrepancy

Failure to provide requested photos may result in denial of the return request.

6. Candles & Home Fragrance Products

Because many of these items are artisan and scent-based:

  • No returns or refunds will be issued due to personal dislike of a scent.
  • Fragrance perception is subjective. Personal scent preference is not considered a defect.
  • Candles that have been lit or used are not eligible for return.
  • Opened or used home fragrance products are not eligible for return.
  • Minor variations in color, texture, labeling, wax appearance, or scent strength are normal.

If a candle or home fragrance item arrives damaged or defective, submit a return request within 7 days of delivery and provide photos when requested.

7. Category-Specific & Non-Returnable Items

Final sale or restricted items include, but are not limited to:

  • Perishable goods and consumables, including food, snacks, honey, teas, beverages, coffee, pantry items, and similar products
  • Opened, tested, swatched, sampled, or used personal care, skincare, beauty, cosmetic, fragrance, wellness, deodorant, soap, bath, body, or grooming products
  • Products with broken seals or missing protective packaging
  • Custom, personalized, engraved, monogrammed, special-order, or made-to-order items
  • Gift cards and digital products
  • Sale, clearance, discontinued, or marked final sale items
  • Hazardous materials or items that cannot be safely returned

Taste preference, texture, scent preference, expected flavor differences, or personal product preference do not qualify as defects.

If you are unsure whether your item is returnable, please contact us before opening, using, or testing it.

8. Damages, Defects & Incorrect Items

Please inspect your order upon delivery.

If your item arrives damaged, defective, or incorrect, submit a return request through the Returns Portal within 7 days of delivery.

You may be asked to provide:

  • Order number
  • Description of the issue
  • Photos of the item
  • Photos of the product packaging
  • Photos of the shipping box or mailer
  • Photo of the shipping label

Claims submitted after 7 days of delivery may be denied.

Depending on the issue, we may offer a replacement, alternative item, store credit, refund, or other resolution at our discretion.

9. Exchanges

We cannot guarantee inventory for exchanges.

The fastest option is to request a return authorization and place a new order for the desired item.

10. European Union – 14-Day Cooling Off Period

EU customers may cancel within 14 days, subject to the item being unused, in original condition, and accompanied by proof of purchase.

Customers are responsible for any loss of value caused by handling beyond what is necessary to inspect the item.

Perishables, custom items, and opened personal care goods remain non-returnable where permitted by law.

11. Refunds

Once a return is received and inspected, we will notify you of approval or denial.

Refund method may vary based on item category, return condition, order history, and return circumstances. In some cases, store credit may be issued instead of a monetary refund.

If approved, refunds are issued to the original payment method or as store credit.

Please allow up to 10 business days for processing after your return has been received and inspected.

Return shipping costs, original shipping charges, and any applicable label costs may be deducted where applicable.

12. Policy Abuse & Chargebacks

My American Goods® monitors return patterns and account activity.

We reserve the right to:

  • Deny returns from accounts showing excessive return behavior
  • Limit returns from customers placing repeated comparison orders
  • Refuse service to customers who abuse this policy
  • Dispute chargebacks with documented policy evidence, tracking, delivery confirmation, and return records

Filing a chargeback without first contacting us or using the Returns Portal may result in permanent account restriction.

13. Policy Changes & Discretion

Because we curate products from many independent American makers, we reserve the right to adjust this policy or make reasonable case-by-case decisions to protect both our customers and our makers.

Our goal is always fair resolution while preserving the integrity of small American brands.
